VERY good product March 4, 2010 Hawk-eye (Oak Ridge, NC) Bought this for my daughter's birthday ... very impressed with the quality of the picture, the sound and the build of the unit.
Definitely a good value to the dollar spent
Slow to change channels March 4, 2010 C. Duston (Texas) First, kudoes to Amazon. I ordered this on Wednesday morning, choose supersaver free shipping, and it arrived before noon on Thursday (I live in Dallas/Fort Worth). Set-up and programming took 15 minutes (okay, I am a rocket scientist) and the DVD player works. The remote is intuitive for someone experienced with using remote conrols. The picture is 1366 x 768 (about 720), so you will not see the refinement of 1080 HD pictures, but I am not sure higher resolution is available on small sets like this. The contrast is good. My only complaint so far is the time to start up and change channels. The Sharp 22DV27UT takes about 2-1/2 seconds to change channels, which is unacceptable for channel surfing. In comparision, the Viewsonic N2201w takes less than one second and my cable box takes about 1/2 second. Start up of the Sharp is also twice as long as the Viewsonic. The picture of the new Sharp is slightly better than the 1-1/2 year old Viewsonic. I selected the Sharp because of better reviews of sound loudness as we be using it in large kitchen/dinette area. The Viewsonic's sound starts to distort at 50% volume level. The Sharp is clear and crisp up to full volume. I don't know which is louder, but the Sharp is goes louder with quality.
Revised Review March 4, 2010 James T. Thrailkill (Colorado) I purchased a Sharp LC-22DV27UT through Amazon on Feb 4, 2010. I don't watch a lot of movies but recently received some DVDs so decided to watch one last night.
I was not able to insert to DVD into the slot.
This was not a case of the DVD going in and being rejected or not playing correctly. I was flat unable to insert the DVD.
I called Sharp Service today and they did some very basic problem determination - unplug the power, wait one minute, then plug it back in. Tried again - will not accept the DVD. There is no Sharp Service Center close to me, so I have to wait two days until they find one and email me the shipping instructions. I, of course, have to pay the shipping costs. Then another 7 - 10 business days to get it fixed and shipped back. So, no TV for at least two weeks. (This might actually be a good thing.) I have no other TV and get very poor radio reception. I am physically limited so the TV is my primary source for news, sports, and entertainment.
I don't have any complaints about the TV itself - vivid visual images, good sound, easy to operate. However, I am just dumbfounded that Quality Control for a major manufacturer like Sharp would not catch a glaring problem like no being able to accept a DVD in the DVD slot. Maybe I'll upgrade my opinion if the repair process is handled quickly and actually fixes the problem. Until then - this thing is CRAP!!
I never heard back from Sharp, so I went on line with Amazon, clicked on order history, need replacement, explained why and was immediately notified by Amazon that they would send me an exact replacement with 1 day shipping and a free shipping label to send back the bad set. Received an email confirmation. The next morning, UPS delivered the replacement, I took the base off the old, attached it to the new, plugged it in, took 5 minutes to program channels, then tested the DVD player which worked like a charm. Didn't even unpack the rest of the components (since they are identical). Packed the old TV/DVD in the new box, taped it up and will drop it at UPS tomorrow.
I am completely satisfied with the new set and am absolutely amazed at the service from Amazon - I am an Amazon customer for life!
Bedroom TV March 4, 2010 Average Gary (Columbia, Maryland United States) This was a great choice for a bedroom television. It looks great mounted on the wall and has extremely good picture and sound quality. The DVD is easy to use and works well. With the QAM tuner, I am able to get about 100 cable channels (some of which are HD)without a converter box. It was easy to set up and so far has performed flawlessly. I am considering a second set for my camper.
Great Buy.....one picky issue February 28, 2010 T. Kosanke (Rochester, NY United States) Purchased this TV a few days ago. It's great......beautiful picture and excellent sound quality. One annoying issue - -when wall mounting this product, the stand is removed but the silver mounting bracket for the stand remains visible, sticking out of the bottom of the TV by about 2 inches. Sharp wasn't thinking on this one. Even a cheap plastic cover for the bracket would have been ok.
